Gabriele Landi, born in Schaerbeek (Belgium) on 23/10/1971. Lives and works in the Province of La Spezia.

Talking about his work, Gabriele Landi declares: “Work is done daily, with small acts, it is deposited, contradicted, cancelled and returns, it is the intelligence of the hands that leads it where it wants to go, it is he who establishes everything, you just have to listen, sometimes his voice is loud sometimes it is inaudible, patience is needed.’ And again: ‘When geometry diverges, it contradicts itself to the point of betraying itself, it becomes the bearer of the deepest poetry: all this may seem like nonsense but this is how I try to use it in my work. Through constant forcing, constricting, widening, flooding and other ways, the relationships between the various parts that make up my work are created. Between the various parts that make up my works there is a constant and continuous struggle conducted under tone that is suffocated in colour. There is no established working method based on daily practice each work has its own history. The work besieges me I need to feel surrounded by its multiple voices. I work bouncing from one work to the next without interruption as if drawing a field of action, a kind of landscape”. Gabriele Landi’s work moves from a pictorial dimension made up of subtle tonal vibrations obtained by superimposition and veiling towards a progressive spatial articulation where colour reigns supreme.

Gabriele Landi studied painting at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, Milan, where he graduated with honours in 1996. Between 1995 and 1999 he took part in a number of group exhibitions including Di segno Italiano curated by Mirella Bandini, Palazzina CEPU Turin in 1996 and in the 1995 and 1996 editions of Artissima, Lingotto Turin with the Associazione Culturale L’Uovo di Struzzo Turin, in 1999 he began a collaboration with Valeria Tognoni that continued until 2005, the two artists took part in several group exhibitions and held a number of solo shows including: ‘Luoghi’ at the Galleria Coevit Arte in Viadana (MN) in 2002 curated by Luigi Meneghini and ‘Bitopie’ at the Associazione Culturale Esquilino Domani, Rome in 2005 curated by Aldo Iori. In 2000, at the invitation of Enzo Cannaviello their work ‘Eclisse’ became part of the permanent collection of the M.A.P.P. (Museo Arte Paolo Pini) Milan. In 2016 Gabriele Landi began exhibiting again, taking part in the 2016 edition of the Premio Suzzara (MN). In 2018 he took part in and organised NoPlace 4, an initiative conceived by Umberto Cavenago and Ermanno Cristini at the former Ceramica Vaccari Ponzano Magra (SP). In 2020 he held two solo exhibitions, the first one at Inner Room, Siena and the second one at La Madonna del Pozzo in Spoleto (PG). one of his works is included in the exhibition of the finalists of the 2020 ArtemCup Prize at the Dino Zoli Foundation in Forlì. In 2021 he held an extensive solo exhibition Lieve Svanire curated by Nicola Ricci at Vôtre Spazi Contemporanei, in Palazzo del Medico, Piazza Alberica in Carrara (MS) in the same space he took part in the group exhibition Uguali Disuguali (Equal Unequal) between December 2021 and February 2022 he was invited by Matteo Galbiati to take part in the group exhibition Dialoghi Siciliani in Taormina. In 2023, as part of the Debacle exhibition curated by Gino D’Ugo at the FourteenarTellaro space, he exhibited with Maurizio Donzelli, Elena El Asmar and Gianluca Sgherri. The four artists work together in the small space, creating a contemporary Wundercammern. In September 2023 he was invited by Orianna Fregosi to exhibit his work as part of the Paralelamente event, an off review of the Festival della Mente, with a solo exhibition Solide incertezze at Palazzo Picedi Benettini in Sarzana (SP), from 16 June to 29 September 2024 At the montagne solo exhibition at mudaC museo delle arti Carrara, Project Room, Carrara (MS) curated by Cinzia Compalati, the exhibition was accompanied by a critical text by the curator and Federico Giannini.
